Newcastle Ultrasound for Women provides a specialized ultrasound service for women. It is a collaborative practice operated jointly by local medical, ultrasound and nursing personnel from Newcastle and the Hunter region combined with the expertise of Sydney Ultrasound for Women.

The advantage of a specialized ultrasound service is the experience of both the sonographers in seeing normal as well as abnormal cases, and the doctors of not just imaging, but also treating patients with these problems as a highly qualified specialist.

Our sonographers are all qualified and are experienced in obstetrics and gynaecological ultrasounds. This is important in recognition of the variations of normal that can occur, as well as abnormalities.

The ultrasound machines are linked to computers to enable the doctor to see the images simultaneously. The images are captured digitally, stored digitally on optical discs and printed out on photo-quality A4 paper. There are video (VHS) facilities at all sites to record the examination.
